What these numbers show — and what they don't
The source is SEC Form 13F, the disclosure institutional investment managers must file with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). It covers long positions in US-listed securities — stocks, plus exchange-traded options and convertible notes, an option being carried at the value of the underlying shares. Cash, short positions, ordinary bonds and holdings outside the US never appear. Filings are quarterly and land up to 45 days after the reporting date, so these figures are an official but delayed and partial view — not a live portfolio.

About Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett has spent more than half a century turning Berkshire Hathaway into one of the most closely watched investment vehicles on the planet. Known as the "Oracle of Omaha," he built his reputation on a deceptively simple idea: buy wonderful businesses at fair prices, then hold them. Buffett favors companies with durable competitive advantages — what he calls a "moat" — understandable economics, and management he trusts. Long-running positions in Coca-Cola, American Express, and Apple illustrate the approach: identify quality, buy with conviction, and let time do the work. His annual letter to Berkshire shareholders is required reading across the investment world, blending market commentary with plainspoken principles on business and integrity.
This page gives you Berkshire Hathaway's publicly disclosed US stock holdings, updated automatically: every position, its weight in the portfolio, and the buys and sells reported quarter over quarter.
The underlying data comes from SEC Form 13F, the mandatory disclosure institutional investors file with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. That comes with real limits: Form 13F covers only long positions in US-listed stocks, gets filed once per quarter, and can be published up to 45 days after quarter-end. Wholly owned businesses such as GEICO or BNSF, bonds, cash, and non-US holdings never show up in a 13F — so the filing is a partial snapshot of Berkshire, not its full balance sheet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Berkshire Hathaway typically concentrates its US equity portfolio in a relatively small number of core positions, with a long-standing tilt toward financials, consumer brands, and technology — Coca-Cola, American Express, and Apple are among the best-known holdings. The table on this page always shows you the latest reported snapshot from SEC Form 13F, including each position's weighting.
Buys and sells become visible when you compare two consecutive Form 13F filings. The table on this page refreshes automatically after every new SEC disclosure, surfacing new positions, full exits, and the stakes he's been adding to or trimming.
Buffett's value-investing approach looks for businesses with understandable economics, a strong market position, and trustworthy management, ideally bought for less than they're worth. Rather than trading on short-term price moves, Berkshire Hathaway tends to hold conviction positions for years or decades — patience and discipline are central to the strategy.
A Form 13F is a mandatory disclosure that institutional investors managing assets above a set threshold must file with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. It lists the US-listed long stock positions held at quarter-end, must be published within 45 days of quarter-end, and therefore reflects a delayed slice of the portfolio — it excludes bonds, cash, short positions, and non-US stocks.
Buffett's decades-long track record and his widely read shareholder letters have made him one of the most closely followed voices in value investing. Many investors watch his 13F filings for a read on which industries and business models he considers durably competitive — though given the reporting lag and the narrow scope of Form 13F, the data isn't a basis for buy or sell decisions on its own.
